Genetische Aufklärung der Polydaktylie in Hinblick auf den Semilethalfaktor

Die Universität Bern - Institut für Genetik hat sich unter der Leitung von Frau Dr. Bianca Haase zu dem Forschungsprojekt "Genetische Aufklärung der Polydaktylie in Hinblick auf den Semilethalfaktor" bereit erklärt. Forschungsgelder dafür sind schon bewilligt worden.

Um ein repräsentatives Forschungsergebnis zu erzielen bedarf es der Mithilfe einer großen Anzahl von Züchtern und Liebhabern, die im Besitz von Elterntieren sowie Nachkommen polydaktyler Katzen sind. 

Das Forschungsteam wird ein Formular entwerfen, welches dann alle Informationen enthält, die für den Tierbesitzer wichtig sind: welche Probe, wie versenden, wohin, ... sowie die benötigten Informationen zum Tier. Diesen öffentlich zugänglichen Link werden wir - sobald er uns bekannt ist - hier einfügen. Dieses Formular müsste dann gemeinsam mit einer Probe an das Institut gesendet werden. Wichtig wäre es, dass nicht nur Blutproben von polydaktylen Katzen, sondern auch von „normalen“ Maine Coons für die Untersuchung zusammenkommen. Ganz optimal wäre es, wenn genetisches Material ganzer Katzen-Familien zugesendet werden könnte, in denen es sowohl „normale“ wie auch „polydyaktyle“ Katzen gibt. Sobald eine ausreichende Menge an Proben eingetroffen ist, kann die Forschung anlaufen. 

Wir möchten hiermit alle Besitzer dieser Katzen bitten, uns beim Kampf um die Anerkennung der Polys zu unterstützen. Sollte der genetische Beweis erbracht werden, dass den polydaktylen Katzen der Semilethalfehler unrechtmäßig "angehängt" wurde, wäre der nächste Schritt: Die Streichung der polydaktylen Maine Coons aus dem Qualzuchtparagraphen. Somit wären dann Zucht und Ausstellung dieser traumhaften Katzen endlich wieder (legal / rechtmäßig) möglich.

Genetic Clarification of Polydactyly with Respect to the Semi-Lethal Factor

  The University of Bern – Institute of Genetics – has declared itself ready, under the lead of Dr. Bianca Haase, to carry out a research project into the "Genetic Clarification of Polydactyly With Respect to the Semi-Lethal Factor ". Research funds for this have been already granted.
To achieve a representative result, the researchproject needs the help of as large number as possible of breeders and cat lovers who are in possession of parents and offspring of polydactyl cats.
 
The research team will develop a form which will contain all information that is important for pet owners: which samples are needed, where to send these ... and other necessary information about the animal. This link will open to the public and inserted here as soon as we have it available. This form should then be sent to the Institute together with a sample. It would be important to receive not only blood samples from polydactyl cats, but also "normal" Maine Coons for this investigation. The ideal situation would be if the genetic material of whole cat family, in which there are both "normal" as well as "polydactyl" cats, could be sent. Research may begin once a sufficient amount of samples have been received.
 
We respectfully ask all owners of these cats to support us in the fight for the recognition of the polys. If the genetic evidence provided shows that the Semi-Lethal Factor has been wrongly applied to polydactyl cats, then the next step would be the removal of polydactyl Maine Coons from the appropriate paragraphs of the animal protection laws. Thus breeding and exhibition of these beautiful cats would at last be legal / legally possible.
